Shaw Athletic F.C. was established in 1997 by good friends Stephen Diggle and Andrew Knaggs.
Shaw Athletic have had success in both league and cup competitions since they were formed back in 1997.
In their first season they won promotion from the Oldham Sunday League Division Four and reached the semi-final of the Divisional Shield.
In 1999 Shaw Athletic won the Royton & Crompton League Division B and then again in 2001 & 2003.
In 2002 they won promotion from the Oldham Sunday League Division Three as well as winning the Divisional Shield in the process.
Season 2002/03 must still go down a success, even though it ended on such a low.
Shaw got through to the semi-finals of both the Presidents Trophy and Challenge Cup in the Oldham Sunday and South East Lancashire leagues repectivly, before losing both games 2 - 1. They also stayed in the top two places in Division Two all season before slipping down to third on the final day of the season and missing out on the runners-up spot.
Promotion was still gained to Division One, but after going so well in cup and league it left all involved with the club feeling low.
All the previous seasons lows vanished in 2004 as Shaw went on to lift 3 throphies. The Royton & Cromptons League Title(Twice) and The Oldham Sunday League Division One Shield.
Shaw Athletic now have teams in The Oldham Sunday League Premier Division as well as the Royton & Crompton Leagues Premier Divisions on Mondays and Thursdays!
